About Us

The Northen Ireland Youth Information Website, was launched in April 2005 to cater for the needs of young people aged 14-25 in N Ireland.

We offer information on a wide range of issues from sexual health and suicide, to how to apply for your driving licence.

The project is funded by the Department of education in N Ireland, managed by the Western Education & Library Board (WELB) and is partnered with the NEELB, BELB, SELB, SEELB, YOUTHNET, N.Ireland Youth Forum, N.Ireland Youth Council, Citizens advice Bureau, Eurodesk and EYRICA.

Niyouthinfo.org follows the principles as outlined in the European Youth Information Charter

Child Protection

We at niyouthinfo.org want to provide a safe online environment for young people using the service. We do so by:

  • Ensuring that no personal details such as addresses, email addresses or telephone numbers are posted online.
  • Monitoring the content of the forums to ensure that any personal, inappropriate or abusive material which may be posted is removed as early as possible, that is, the first working day after being posted.
  • Use of a ‘Bad Word’ filter on the message board which partially replaces ‘bad’ language with asterices.
  • Removing users from the forum if they are found to be abusive or persistently using inappropriate language.
  • Ensuring that all users agree to ‘Guidelines for Acceptable Use’ of the forum before being registered as a user.
  • Ensuring that any comments or questions which contain personal material or do not meet the acceptable use guidelines are not approved and therefore do not appear on the website.
  • Ensuring that all links from articles are to appropriate sites.
  • Providing links to the appropriate legal organisation (see below) via articles dealing with issues regarding internet safety.

CEOP - Child Exploitation and Online Protection is a Government website which provides the opportunity to report online abuse or concerns 24 hrs a day 7 days a week.

Think U Know - Government website which gives young people the information they need about internet safety.

In line with the Child Protection Policy and Procedures of the Western Education & Library Board, all concerns will be recorded and passed to the Child Protection Officer for the Youth Service. These records will be filed and retained in a secure environment and treated in accordance with Child Protection Policy.
